What is IGCSE?
International General Certificate of Secondary Education or IGCSE is usually taken
by 14 to 16 years old students to prepare for higher academic work including AS Level,
A Level, and International Baccalaureate (IB).
University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) developed Cambridge IGCSE
in 1988. It offers variety of areas: Languages, Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics,
Creative, Technical and Vocational.
British Council Thailand organizes
Cambridge IGCSE
examination twice a year to any student.
Another examination board, Edexcel, also has
its own version known as Edexcel IGCSE which is offered in some international schools.
Why do I need to take IGCSE?
In Thailand, IGCSE completion is accepted by Ministry of Education as High school
equivalency (Mathayom 6) which can be used for college/university admission in many
institutions including Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University, Mahidol
University International College (MUIC), and Assumption University (ABAC).
How to pass IGCSE Exam?
There are over thirty IGCSE subjects offered by British Council Thailand. According to
Ministry of Education, students need to pass at least five IGCSE subjects with grade “C”
or above to be equivalenced to Mathayom 6 Diploma.
The IGCSE exams are designed for students who have different abilities; therefore,
students can select to take "Core" (easier exam papers) or "Extended" (more difficult
exam papers).
Core: A full overview of the subject. Students will achieve grade C, D, E, F, or G.
Extended: Extra topics will be added. Students will achieve grade A, B, C, D, E, F, or G
Generally, students can pick up any subject from the list. Requirements of MoE are:
(1) to achieve grade “C” or better in five IGCSE subjects.
(2) from those five subjects, two of them must include Mathematics and English.
However, some colleges may require students to take specific IGCSE subject in order to
apply to a college. AIMS highly recommend students to check admission requirements
before deciding to take any IGCSE test.

How does an exam looks like?
Generally, students need to take more than one paper in each subject. Some IGCSE
papers are multiple choices while many are fill in the blanks. Below is a sample question
from IGCSE Accounting
On 1 January 2006 a trader’s insurance account had a debit balance of $900.
On 1 July 2006 an annual insurance premium of $2000 was paid for the year ended 30 June
2007. Which amount was charged for insurance in the profit and loss account for the year
ended 31 December 2006?
A) $900
B) $1900
C) $2000
D) $2900

How to apply for IGCSE?
To apply for IGCSE, applicants need to contact British Council (02 652 5480-9).
Generally, there are two periods of test in a year which are:
(1) May/June
(2) October/November
In 2011, test fee is 5,000-8,000 Baht per subject. If applicants apply after the normal
entry, they will be charged 3,000 Baht per subject for late entry application.

I pass the exam, then what's next?
If you would like to further your study at the undergraduate level in Thailand, you need
to bring your score report to Ministry of Education to prove as High school equivalency.

กว่า300,000 คนต่อปีจากกว่า 100 ประเทศทั่วโลก หลักสูตร IGCSE เป็นหลักสูตรที่มีวิชาต่างๆให้ผู้ศึกษา
สามารถเลือกเรียนได้ ผู้สอบสามารถเลือกทำข้อสอบวัดความรู้ในเนื้อหาวิชาแบบ Core (พื้นฐาน) หรือ
แบบ Extended (ขั้นสูง) เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับความรู้ของผู้สอบที่แตกต่างกัน โดยผู้สอบที่เลือกสอบแบบ

เหตุผลที่ควรเรียน IGCSE ที่สถาบันเอมส์

3. การประเมินผล สถาบันเอมส์ถูกก่อตั้งโดยผู้มีประสบการณ์สอนในสถาบันการศึกษาของรัฐมาก่อน
ดังนั้นจึงทราบดีว่าการประเมินผลมีความสำคัญอย่างมาก นักเรียนจะได้ฝึกฝนโดยผ่านการทำ Past Paper
